BAHASI, the Bangwe HIV/Aids self-help initiative, is an NGO established in 2004, dedicated to improving the welfare of individuals affected by HIV/Aids. We currently house and feed over 40 children, as well as running various support groups for the community. These include a woman's empowerment group, youth development club, free pre-school and a home-based care program.

We need a bus to transport the children at BAHASI to and from school each day and for activities. Currently, we are paying for public transport to and from school every day, however this is very expensive and due to the fuel crisis happening in Malawi, we are really struggling to find an affordable and safe way to get our kids to school.

With a bus we would be able to ensure all of the kids can get to and from school and continue their education. It would mean that they have secure transport each day that is reliable and doesn't compromise the safety of our children. A bus for BAHASI is crucial to ensure our children's protection and schooling, both of which are priorities here at BAHASI. This would also enable BAHASI to save money and use it to improve other projects we are working on. These other areas include the completion of our girls’ hostel, meaning the girls at BAHASI have a safe and suitable environment to stay in; teachers wages for the fantastic people who teach pre-school and standard 1 and 2 at BAHASI; and the continuation of our support of the wider community. These areas have profoundly impacted the lives of individuals who would otherwise not have much, if any, help. So please consider donating to our just-giving page to support this excellent cause.
