Story

Hi, my name is Layla Grace Allsop and I am currently Miss Mansfield’s Outstanding Teen 2018/19 ! As part of my role, I have the amazing opportunity to host many charity events to raise money for my chosen charity, The Brittle Bones Society over the next year. I am extremely passionate about this charity as it’s very close to my heart because in 2016 my younger sister was diagonsed with Osteogenisis Imperfecta (aka Brittle Bones disease) after breaking her sixth bone from a minor incident. It is a rare genetic disorder affecting around 1 in 15,000 people in the UK, however no cure has been found. My family and many other families have had to make make adjustments in our home and lifestyle to make this incurable disease managable. This disease is now causing my sister, Jasmine, to develop scoliosis of the spine and some days is in immense pain. The Brittle Bones Society is the only charity that helps people with OI as there is a lack of awareness around the country. The charity helped my family come to terms with this disease over the past two years and I would love for Mansfield and Sheerwood Forest to become fully aware of this amazing charity! I would love to raise as much money as I can as it will help fund medical research to find a cure, fund wheelchairs and equipment for sufferers of the disease and fund the charity to continue to provide support packs to families affected by OI. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and I hope I can see you at my upcoming events! Thankyou 💙💛
