Story

Mike McEvoy, a former pupil of the school, first worked at Colchester Royal Grammar School in 1979 whilst playing first class English cricket and has been a full time teacher at the school since 1989. He clearly like the school so much that he couldn't keep away!

Mr. McEvoy is retiring at the end of this school year. He is a much loved teacher who will finally get his Saturdays back.

Having played cricket at the school from Year 7 through to Year 13, we have witnessed first-hand the time and effort put in by Mr McEvoy in order to train us so that we resemble some form of a cricket team. There have been many long minibus journeys with awful music blasting out of speakers, and many games in which I am sure, when watching us, it would have been easy to lose the will to live. However, Mr. McEvoy stuck with us and I know, certainly within my year group, that every single player thoroughly enjoyed their opportunity to represent the school and each of us would acknowledge vastly improved skills from the early days of Year 7. On behalf of everyone for whom Mike has given up his weekends, after-school time and early mornings, we would like to thank him. He will be a hard act to follow.

We would like to give him a gift in recognition and appreciation of his years of dedication to the school, the pupils and sport. Any messages that you leave will be forwarded to him.
