    Story

MMU Boxing Club are seeking £600 for new equipment and to fund one of our coaches through their coach qualification. Both of these will support the development of our Boxers and our club.

Since setting up three years ago, we have gone from strength to strength and have grown a single weekly class of 20 students to five sessions each week, supporting different abilities and experience levels, for over 150 students this year.

We started the club with fifteen pairs of gloves and five pads. Each year we have used our funding by our University to support the development of the club through coach education, sports hall hire and equipment. This year we used our funding to purchase the club's first boxing bags and fittings. Unfortunately, this has meant we were unable to fund the following, which is why we hope to be able to crowdfund from those generous enough to support our cause.

The funding will be used to purchase some much-needed sparring safety equipment (4 x Headguards and 4 x 16oz Sparring Gloves), training gloves, skipping ropes and a coaching body pad. We would also like to put through one of our coaches through the Level 2 England Boxing Coach qualification. This equipment and the additional qualified coach will remove some the current limitations our beginner and competitive Boxers are facing - as the club abides by England Boxing’s safety regulation and we cannot spar in-house without the supervision of a Level 2 Coach.

This year we are eager to continue the clubs development and enter a competitive squad from our Club into the British University Championships (BUCs). This ambition will be supported by the club's ability to run more sparing in our own club (instead of travelling to another club) and through having the right equipment at hand.

Our society acts a social platform for all students at Manchester Metropolitan University to socialise, have fun and challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment. We are one of the most inclusive sports clubs on Campus and are keen to continue helping students to develop their mental health and well-being.

Our coaches act purely on a voluntary basis and the students annual membership goes to the University's sport department to be redistributed across the University instead of the Club's account.

If you would like to check out our club’s activity or have further question please get in touch with our committee by joining join our Facebook Group:

We greatly appreciate any donation made and thank you in advance for your support.

    Many thanks,

    MMU Boxing Club
