Story
Hello from the magnificent Paediatric Diabetes Team from the Whittington!
As a team we are very dedicated to providing our families with effective knowledge and skills to feel empowered to manage their diabetes.
We are participating in a 10 km walk, as a team, on the 23rd September 2018, to raise money which will be used to fund group education sessions and fun, activity days for children with Type 1 diabetes. Any money raised will be used to buy equipment for the education sessions (stationery, weighing scales, food for carb counting, lunch for the attendees, sports equipment) and also plan and implement fun activity days for children with type 1 diabetes. We have previously organised bowling sessions followed by lunch, day trips to Lambourne End and carried out team building sports sessions.
The children have all thoroughly enjoyed these sessions as often it is during these events they meet other kids with diabetes and learn from each other. By conducting these sessions we aim and hope to enhance peer learning which has been found to be more successful than didactic teaching in certain areas. Children develop effective Peer support and learn to manage their diabetes through practical experiences.
We are very grateful for your contribution. Thank you.
