Story

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a chronic muscle wasting disease that is responsible for the highest infant mortality rates across the developed world in under 2's. 1 in 6,000 - 1 in 10,000 children are born with the disease. 1 in 40 - 1 in 50 people are carriers of the SMA disease.

My beautiful and bright 15 month old nephew Adam Baughn is coming to terms with being diagnosed with Type 2 of this devastating disease. I've decided to try and help him in a very small way by raising money for a much needed walking aid to enable help him become as active as possible. I shall be running the Dublin marathon alongside a few amazing and dedicated friends, Mark Rogers, Ben Tracey and Euan Thomas. The walking aid we are trying to raise the money for is called the 'Innowalk' and currently UK Government funding is not available to pay for this innovative and significantly beneficial device. You can view the product at www.madeformovement.com.

On top of raising money for specifically for Adam, we are also looking to raise general awareness of Spinal Muscular Atrophy and show our support to The Annabelle Rose Foundation (http://www.annabellerosefoundation.co.uk/), who are dedicated to providing help & support to families affected by SMA. Every penny over the 12,000 pounds target posted to the crowdfunding page we raise will go to The Annabelle Rose Foundation. To help ensure we go well above our target a number of other events have been and are being organised by loving friends and family of Adam - to name just a few a quiz night, bingo and bake sales.

We would truly appreciate any donation towards this worthy cause and by doing so allowing Adam greater mobility and a better quality of life.

Many thanks

Laurence and team.
