Story
MOCRA is an acronym. It stands for 'Mothers of Children Conceived in Rape and Abuse'.
We are a charity founded in 2020 by Dr Jessica Taylor to provide support and advice to women and girls who become pregnant from rape, sexual abuse, exploitation, trafficking and incest. We also aim to provide services for children who find that they were conceived in acts of rape and sexual violence against their mothers.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of women and girls are raped in the UK. Whilst currently not readily discussed, thousands of these women and girls become pregnant and often struggle to find specialist support with their decisions and questions.
We are led by a team of influential, experienced and diverse women, some of which have lived experience of becoming pregnant, having children from rape or being conceived in rape.
A new service to support women and girls across England, we aim to use our expertise to develop services, campaigns, lobbying, training and resources to educate, raise awareness and improve the responses to women and girls who become pregnant from male violence.
Our team includes several women who have had children from rape, or were themselves conceived in the rape and abuse of their mothers.
We are dedicated to providing vital services to women and girls, and their children.
- To provide information and support to women and girls who become pregnant or have babies who are conceived in rape, abuse or trafficking
- To provide information and support to adolescent and adult children who were conceived in rape, abuse or trafficking
- To conduct research into the well-being, needs and rights of women and children who are subjected to rape, abuse and trafficking
- To develop and provide education and resources to professionals and organisations to improve the responses and support of women and children subjected to rape, abuse and trafficking
- To advocate for the rights and protections of women and girls who become pregnant or have babies from rape, abuse or trafficking
Beneficiaries of MOCRA Foundation are limited to women and girls who become pregnant or have babies from rape, abuse or trafficking and the children who are conceived in rape, abuse or trafficking of their mother.
We are looking to raise the money to begin initial services for women and girls.
- We will provide a flexible support service comprising of webchat, text support, telephone support and face to face support of women and girls who have become pregnant from all forms of sexual violence and abuse
- We will set up children's services for those who are conceived in acts of sexual violence against their mothers. This service will be for children under 18 and adult children who were conceived in rape and abuse of their mothers.
-We will invest in education, training and research to educate and raise awareness of the experiences and rights of women and girls who become pregnant from rape and abuse - and the rights and experiences of their children.
- We will remain trauma-informed, anti-victim blaming, anti-pathologisation and pro-choice at all times, in all of our services and support
- We will create change through campaigns, lobbying governments and seeking support from those with influence and power to ensure that women and girls (and their children conceived in rape and abuse) are protected and supported.
