    Story

We’re very lucky and very proud of our 3 scouts from Modbury who after a gruelling selection weekend, were chosen to represent Devon and the UK at the 2019 World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA.

The 3 have been working hard to raise the £12,300 (minimum) required to go to the Jamboree (£4,100 each). Part of this will go to help other scouts from around the globe who are from less fortunate countries to be able to attend to make it a truly global event.

So, what’s so different about these 3 and why do they need your help?

Well, Modbury is extremely lucky to have had 3 scouts selected, but Modbury is only very small and so is the South Hams District relative to other scouting areas. Many other Districts have been able to give their scouts a significant jump-start with a contribution of around £1,300, many have also received a similar amount on top from their troop. Whilst very grateful, in comparison the Modbury scouts have only received £300 from their District and as the troop is busy trying to build their own HQ, there aren’t any funds to help with the Jamboree.

The 3 scouts are also giving back to the community and are in training for the Jamboree – whilst in America, they have to provide some typical British entertainment and food to share with the other scouts from around the world and in turn, will be learning from each other so that they can bring back the best ideas to share with scouts and cubs back home.

Part of their training is to help out at 5 Devon scouting events. Here they will give their weekends (and valuable fundraising time), to help younger cubs and scouts learn about scouting, enabling them to have fun in a safe, outdoor environment. Hopefully this will turn full-circle and make some of them scout leaders in the future too.

We really appreciate the amazing support we have had from all of our friends, families and the community, but this is a big hill to climb and any further help or opportunities for fund-raising, will be much appreciated.

The 3 scouts are more than willing to come before or after the Jamboree to give a talk and explain what they are doing/done and how it will benefit both the community and world-wide scouting.

Thanks for your time and support.
