    Story

Moffat is a beautiful historic Town with a population of 2,500 people who care deeply about their environment. It is also a popular destination for visitors who are extremely important to our economy. Tourism accounts for 36% of our employment and a high proportion of our business income. We were an Outstanding Conservation Town, but of recent years Moffat has lost its vibrance and attraction with many buildings in a poor state of repair. Our built heritage gave Moffat its unique conservation status but our historic buildings are now in need of restoration and repair to once again proudly reflect their former Georgian and Victorian glory. Our buildings have been visited by a Grand Duke of Russia, Robert Burns and designed by famous architects Newell and John Adam. Our built heritage is our unique history, our culture and is an immense source of pride.

We have now applied to Historic Environment Scotland for a £2M grant from their Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) but the application had to be supported by the Conservation Area Character Appraisal (CACA) . The Community Council has been able to contribute £5000 to the cost, and nearly £2000 has been raised from donations from the public, but we still have a shortfall of around £7000 for the final version of the CACA and Management Plan.

Lets pull together to restore our Conservation Area, secure our built heritage and income into the future.

The application for the £2M grant from the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) is now in, so here's hoping. We won't know about this now until March. However we are still short of the money we need to pay for the Conservation Area Character Appraisal report that was essential for the application. Thanks to everyone who has donated. We could do with more like you!

All in line with the Moffat and Beatock action plan , that the whole community was involved in, now onto the next stages , which requires the support of the community, funds attract other funds.

Moffat needs a facelift and tourism is the town's life blood. Good Luck!
