Story

A small community in Cape Town have a very talented group of 'Riel Dancers', given the opportunity they can be very successful, as they have proved by winning against all odds, The World Traditional Dance Championships in 2015, in Los Angeles - taking this dance form to an International Stage. All they want to do is to go on tour with their dance group and at the same time educating the public to the wonderful, ancient cultural heritage that is 'riel dancing'. Plus, they would like to be able to stay in school and finish their schooling - which may sound like an odd request, but coming from an impoverished community, with high unemployment, even to pay a small amount towards school books, fees and uniforms can be a financial hardship.

Enter, Elsa Perez, an 82 year old dancer, teacher and choreographer who has never forgotten her South African roots growing up in Cape Town, under an apartheid government of the day, she too knows about not being afforded opportunities to grow and develop as a creative individual.

So, our plan is to make a short feature film called 'Elsa and The Riel Dancer' to highlight their cause and to tell their story .

Elsa will teach the 'Riel dancers' the steps of 'The Samba' and they in turn will teach her 'The Riel', an ancient dance born out of ceremonial dancing round an open fire. This dance has been passed down from generation to generation amongst the Khoi San Indigenous people of Southern Africa.

Once we have completed the film, we will sell it and the money will be put into a trust fund for the young dancers, to use for their education and touring costs.

We are offering some great rewards in return for sponsoring this crowdfunding project.
