As she has both an Aunt and Uncle who are key workers for the NHS, 2 year old Molly Isabelle is raising money with the help of Mummy and Daddy for the NHS,- specifically the NICU ward at Addenbrooks hospital in Cambridge where she was born. Molly was a premature baby herself and as a family were reliant on the wonderful staff and their resources to support Molly in having the best start possible. At 26 weeks Molly first wanted to make an appearance and as first time parents to be, we had the horrendous experience of having doctors try to prepare us for only a 20% survival rate if she was to come so early. Thankfully she held on in there and came exactly 10 weeks later at 36 weeks but still needed the care of the NICU team. As a family we will be forever thankful to the staff for everything they did for Molly day and night, also for the most wonderful care and support we received at the most scary time of our lives.

Now due to Covid 19 we find ourselves in another scary and uncertain time which led me to thinking about how terrifying it must be for other families in our situation right now. I cant even imagine the level of worry they must have. So to give something back to the NICU we wanted to raise some money to help give other premature babies and parents the extra support they will need at an incredibly anxious time. One of Molly’s favourite things to do is to play on her balance bike so we are encorporating that with the approved exercise from the Government within social distancing where she will do 15 laps of our road. 5 per day on the 5th, 6th and 7th of May- finishing in time to clap for carers as she does every Thursday evening before bed. For us this is about Molly having fun, marking this unique time with milestones and memories and most importantly giving something back and encouraging kindness.
