Weʼre raising £2,000 to Work with the World Medical Fund caring for children in Malawi

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

We are two qualified children’s nurses who work in paediatric intensive care. We are going out to Malawi for two weeks in summer 2019 to volunteer with World Medical Fund in their mobile clinic. We are raising money for the trip and for World Medical Fund to ensure that their life changing work can continue.

About World Medical Fund.

‘We believe that healthcare must be a basic right for every child, not a luxury’

In Malawi one in five children won’t survive to reach their fifth birthday. Families often live over 20km away from the nearest tarmac road and a further 40km still to the nearest hospital making access to healthcare dangerous and difficult. The World Medical Fund takes life saving medical care to these communities treating 25,000 children each year.

Their Mobile Medical Clinic operates from a 4x4 enabling it to get to the remotest parts of Africa. It carries a clinical team and over 60 different medicines enabling treatment of a wide range of conditions including malaria, malnutrition and HIV/AIDS. It also provides some longer term treatment of chronic conditions such as asthma and epilepsy.

They also have a Mobile medical theatre in the form of an old converted ambulance. This means that children presenting to the clinic requiring surgical procedures can be treated without having to travel the often unmanageable journey to the nearest hospital.

Through their hands on medical treatment and health advocacy in Malawi the World Medical Fund has saved and changed the life’s of over 325,000 children. We would love it if you could help us contribute to the amazing work they do and be a part of enabling them to continue this work for many years to come.
