My name is Molly, I am 21 months old and have a wicked sense of humour. I also love spending time laughing with my baby sister Phoebe. I am asking you to help keep the smile on my face!
I have just been diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. It affects roughly 1 in 12,000 females and can cause severe mental and physical disabilities. I have listed some of these below:
- irregular heart beat
- inability to feed
- loss of use of my hands
- slowing head growth
- curvature of my spine
- loss of mobility
- floppiness and stiffness of my limbs
- breathing problems
- inability to speak and communicate even when I am in pain
- periods of distress, irritability and screaming
Because of this I will be lucky to make it to middle age. I am going to need lots of extra help throughout my life and around the clock care.
I am also going to need lots of specialist equipment and extra therapy to try and keep me as healthy as possible. The only problem is it's a bit pricey!
One of the first things I am going to need is a Innowalk, it looks a bit like a cross trainer and will improve my range of motion and joint flexibility. This alone is going to cost my family thousands of pounds that they haven't got.
Hopefully there will one day be a cure for this syndrome and perhaps I will get to experience this. This is why I want to stay at my healthiest!
Any contribution towards this will help my family and me lots!
Lots of love, hugs, and kisses,
