Weʼve raised £3,230 to help fund the Monarch's Way Association

    Worcester, UK to Shoreham, UK
Funded on Wednesday, 25th July 2018

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

The Monarch's Way is a 625 mile ( 1000km) historical route following in the footsteps of Charles II after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester and his subsequent flight from Cromwell's Roundhead forces. The trail starts in Worcester circumnavigates Birmingham, crosses the Cotswolds and the Mendips, winds through Somerset, Devon to the Dorset coast, then cuts across country to Salisbury to join the South Downs as far as Brighton and finally doubles back on itself to Shoreham.

We are going to be completing the whole thing on foot over a continuous several days. The fastest known time to complete until now is 42 days set by The King himself and another Monarch fanatic more recently. 77 people have completed the entire route in stages in 30 years. We plan to set a new Fastest Known Time for the trail AND create the first definitive GPS map and files of the actual route to make using the trail easier for others in the future.

The basket (case) that all our eggs are in is Lee-Stuart Evans, who has extensively reconnoitred the route and who we believe can actually do the whole thing. Jason and I might surprise ourselves, but otherwise are there to support his journey. The adventure begins on Thursday 29th March 2018 at precisely roughly half nine ish in the evening. Expect many pics and vids!

We'd love it if anyone fancied donating some money to the Monarch's Way Association, the not-for-profit organisation who look after the entire trail and update the 30 year old guidebooks. Imagine a handful of people maintaining the entire South Downs Way…..now imagine a South Downs Way 6 times bigger.

The Monarchs Way work hard at an impossible task and could really do with some support. We are looking to raise £1 for every km of the trail !

Just click on the link to donate.

Additionally, when you donate, put a guess next to your name for the date and time you think we'll finish in the comments of the donation. The winner (closest) will receive a case of Brewdog beers!! If you don't believe we'll finish, and you predict a distance we'll achieve, and you're correct, the beers you receive will be non-alcoholic.

Sadly we won't have live tracking as we didn't have the means available but GPS watches will be recording every step of our progress so that the whole thing can be fully verified. If you want to know where we are at any point just send one of us a message!

Wish us luck! Kieran (and Lee and Jason) x

The amount of money people have donated for the Monarch's Way Association is brilliant, if anyone else wishes to pass on a few spare pounds the page will remain open for a while. We have techie people working on the GPS data from the various tracking devices to snip off the little bits of wrong-turns and double-backs so that it's a continuous accurate path, and then split it into more manageable sections for walkers and runners to use via the MWA website.

It's done! It's finished. In a time of approx 16 days and 9 hours Lee-Stuart Evans covered roughly 650 miles (the expected distance was 615-615 but that was measured by the historian who compiled the route 30 years ago, over a period of 19 years so accuracy wasn't likely to be tip top).

Wow the total raised so far is almost £2000! That's twice the target we set at the beginning! Lee is now well past the 2/3 mark, he's at about 450 miles, and later today he'll pass the current distance record on the course. Runners/walkers/wellwishers are more than welcome to join him for a bit or just pop up and say hi if you live nearby! Follow his progress on www.racedrone.net/event/monarchs-way
