Story
This is a one in a life time experience. We want to make the most of the 2018 summer by doing somthing very special. So we heard about this rally - known as "the greatest motoring adventure on the planet. " So why not?!?!
The rally organisers set out that at least 500 pounds goes to Cool Earth. This is an environmental charity that works in partnership with indigenous communities. The charity only protects rainforest that without intervention will be destroyed within the next 18 months. Cool Earth works strategically, protecting forest that acts as a barrier to a wider landscape. The charity spends just 10% of your donation on admin and governance making sure as much as possible goes to project areas. Through working with local people Cool Earth makes sure conservation goes hand in hand with better livelihoods.
We are also considering two other charities based in Birmingham including a student led charity called Kids Adventure, which takes vulnerable and underprivileged children aged 7-11, from the local area on week - long, bon-residential, action-packed activity breaks.
"The Mongol Rally thunders 10,000 miles across the mountains, desert and steppe of Europe and Asia each summer. There’s no backup, no support and no set route; just you, your fellow adventurists and a tiny car."
The team will be made up of myself, Harry, a mechanical engineering student, Anu, a chemical engineering student, Felix, a materials engineering student and Michael, a physics student. All members of the team are practical and have hands on experience working with maintaining cars.
There will be 2 Go Pro cameras on board to help film and document this amazing experience, mostly by Anu, an experienced amateur photographer.
At this current moment in time, we have a well serviced car being prepared, ongoing fundraising for our charities and have agreed on a general route we wish to take.
Any donations would be appreciated; even just a fiver would be a great help to getting us started.
