Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Starting at noon on Saturday 23rd May runners from Monkstown Spartans AC will take on a running challenge in aid of Newtownabbey Racers athletes as they prepare to compete at the 2026 Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games in Dublin. This challenge will see us running 5k every hour for 24 hours for a total of 120km (75 miles). We will be rotating over three routes from Loughshore to Hazelbank, Hazelbank to Nortel and Nortel to Loughshore.

We currently have almost 50 members committed to taking part in the event and no doubt more will be persuaded (or forced) into joining us. It’s only 75 miles after all and 24 whole hours to do it in. Also, as it’s the Bank Holiday weekend there will be plenty of time to catch up with sleep on the Monday.

Newtownabbey Racers – Supporting Athletes, Changing Lives

Newtownabbey Racers Special Olympics Club is a volunteer-led athletics club supporting over 60 athletes aged 4+ with intellectual disabilities. We provide a safe, inclusive space where athletes can run, jump, throw, build confidence, and form lasting friendships.

In 2026, we are proudly celebrating 20 years of Racers — and this year is especially significant as six of our athletes have been selected to represent Team Ulster at the Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games in Dublin.

Events like the Monkstown Spartans 24hr 5K challenge help us continue to offer opportunities for all our athletes, as well as support those representing the club at national level.

Every donation makes a real difference — helping with training, competition costs, and ensuring our athletes can take part, grow, and achieve their potential.

A huge thank you to Monkstown Spartans for their support, and best of luck to everyone taking part — we’ll be cheering you on 💙💛

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, I will withdraw funds directly. It's the most efficient way to donate and saves time and costs.
