In 2016, our teacher Miss Baird volunteered in Highlands primary school, Zambia. While there, she would read to the pupils from a book as there were not enough to go around. Some classes had as many as 50 pupils in the one room. Since returning, pupils at Hermitage Academy and the local community have donated and sent over 1300 books. Transporting the books costs a lot of money, therefore, we are planning an excursion in 2019 to take over even more books! Our aim is to raise literacy levels across Livingstone and promote education as a means to a better future.

Reading is, and always has been, a huge part of my life and so I feel strongly about how important it is for young people. I would love to see these children experience adventure, learn and grow through reading, just as I have.

To be able to volunteer, I need to raise my travel costs independently. This challenge is an important part of my experience, so I plan to organise fundraising activities and events locally. Any donations you can give would be greatly appreciated!
