Due to the war on Gaza and the destruction of buildings, mosques, and infrastructure, thousands of people have been displaced to shelters. As the displaced people return to their homes, they need a place to perform congregational prayers and hold Quran memorization sessions in the displacement camps.
Proposal for Establishing praying Areas in Gaza Strip
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.”
The establishment of a praying area goes beyond the creation of a physical structure; it is about building a foundation for spiritual growth, community support, and social cohesion. It serves not only as a place for prayer and reflection but also as a centre for education, and social services. This proposal aims to address the urgent need for a praying areas in Gaza Strip , where 10 places are going to be established, particularly in light of the widespread destruction caused by war on Gaza.
Over the course of the 15 months of the recent war on Gaza, more than 1,000 mosques in Gaza have been completely demolished. The war has caused unimaginable destruction, not only to homes and infrastructure but also to places of worship that are vital to the community's spiritual and social well-being. The loss of these mosques has left many individuals without a place to gather, pray.
Given the immense need for places of worship and community support in the aftermath of the war, the establishment of praying areas has become an urgent priority. This mosque will not only provide a space for prayer but will also offer a variety of programs, including Quranic studies, educational initiatives, and community-building activities. It will serve as a beacon of hope, unity, and recovery for those who have suffered in the aftermath of the conflict.
In addition to providing a sanctuary for worship, Establishing these prayer areas will play a central role in rebuilding the community, offering a space where people can come together to heal, support one another, and rebuild their lives. It will offer a symbol of resilience, faith, and the collective strength of the people of Gaza as they work towards recovery and rebuilding their communities in the wake of the devastation.
Al-Qassam Mosque, Al-Nuseirat
The Martyr Izz al-Din al-Qassam Mosque, located at Al-Souq Street in Al-Nuseirat Refugee Camp, is one of the most prominent mosques in the area, used to attract around 3,000 worshippers. The mosque is distinguished by its diverse religious and educational activities. It hosts more than 45 Quran memorization circles, in addition to a specialized center for teaching Quranic rules and recitation. It also has a Quran memorization center for women and another for children's education, contributing to the spread of knowledge across different segments of society. The mosque's activities are not limited to religious education; it also offers supplemental school lessons for all educational stages, strengthening its role as a vibrant cultural and educational hub in the region.

Abdullah Azzam Mosque
The Martyr Abdullah Azzam Mosque in Camp 5, Al-Nuseirat, located in the central area of the Gaza Strip, is one of the distinguished mosques in the region, it used to attract around 1,500 worshippers. The mosque offers numerous religious and educational activities that contribute to raising the level of religious and academic culture among the community. It includes more than 30 Quran memorization circles, as well as a center for teaching the rules of the Quran and its proper recitation. The mosque also pays special attention to children's education through dedicated centers, in addition to providing supplementary school lessons for all educational stages. Through these activities, the mosque plays a significant role in promoting Islamic values and educational growth among the local population, making it a vital center for religious learning.

Ahmad Yassin Mosque – Al-Maghazi
Ahmad Yassin Mosque, located in the Al-Maghazi camp in the central Gaza Strip, opposite to the UNRWA clinic, is one of the mosques that serve the community in a distinctive way. The mosque attracts around 200 worshippers. It offers many activities and services that contribute to serving the local population, such as Quran memorization circles that allow worshippers to learn and recite the Quran. In addition, the mosque had a water purification station that provided fresh water to the residents of the area around the clock. The mosque also had a library that benefited students of knowledge, helping to enhance the level of education. It also contained a hall dedicated to holding religious meetings and preaching lessons, making it a vibrant center for religious guidance and education in the region.
The Grand mosque – Bureij camp
The Grand Mosque in the center of Al-Bureij Refugee Camp in the central Gaza Strip is one of the most prominent mosques in the area. It is located opposite the Al-Bureij Services Club and spans an area of 1200 square meters. The mosque attracts around 2000 worshippers and is considered one of the largest mosques in the camp in terms of space. The mosque consists of three floors in addition to a basement, providing ample space for worshippers. The mosque hosts a variety of activities that serve the community, such as Quran memorization circles that allow worshippers to learn and recite the Quran. It also organizes other religious and educational events such as lessons in jurisprudence and creed. The mosque places special emphasis on educating children and youth by organizing cultural and religious courses, enhancing its role as a vital center for serving the camp's residents. The mosque also offers an ideal environment for social and religious activities that contribute to strengthening community ties and promoting Islamic values among its members. The mosque includes many vital centers, such as a Quran memorization center for boys and girls with 500 participants, a supplementary lessons center with 300 students, a center for teaching Quranic rules and recitation with 1000 participants, and religious lesson circles with 350 attendees. Additionally, it features a water purification station that provides fresh water to the residents of the area, along with a public library to benefit those seeking to enhance their knowledge and culture.

The Al-Safa Mosque – Bureij camp
The Al-Safa Mosque is located on the main street of Al-Bureij Refugee Camp in the Middle Area of Gaza Strip , near the Agency's Services Center. It is the second-largest mosque in the camp in terms of area, covering 800 square meters, and consists of two floors plus a basement. The mosque used to attract around 1500 worshippers and offers many community-serving activities, such as a Quran memorization center for boys and girls with 500 participants, a supplementary lessons center with 300 students, and a center for teaching Quranic rules with 1000 participants. The mosque also has religious lesson circles with 350 attendees. One of the prominent services provided by the mosque is a water purification station that supplies fresh water to the local residents.

Al-Rayan Mosque- Deir al-Balah,
Al-Rayan Mosque in Deir al-Balah, located in the central governorate of the Gaza Strip, is situated at Abu Meiri Square in the eastern Salah al-Din area. The mosque was established in 2006 and opened in 2016. Unfortunately, it was completely destroyed during the "Flood of Al-Aqsa" war in September 2024. The mosque covers an area of 400 square meters and consists of several sections: a basement of 400 square meters that includes restrooms, ablution areas, and a prayer hall; the ground floor, which serves as the mosque's main courtyard; and the first floor of 250 square meters, which contains a library and is topped with a dome. The mosque accommodated approximately 800 worshippers across the two floors. Among the services offered by the mosque are daily prayers, Friday prayers, Quran memorization circles, and religious and jurisprudential lessons.

The Al-Iman and Taqwa Mosque
The Al-Iman and Taqwa Mosque is located in the Wadi al-Salqa area in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip. It is considered a central mosque in the area. The mosque serves as a main center for conducting funeral prayers for the deceased in the region, and no less than 100 worshippers attend each prayer. The mosque features a water desalination station that serves the local community in an essential and important way. The mosque also houses a Quran memorization centre for both males and females, which is considered one of the distinguished centers in the Deir al-Balah area. The mosque is one of the key mosques that hold Taraweeh prayers and Qiyam al-Lail during the month of Ramadan. The mosque was subjected to a bombing with three missiles during the war.
