Story

Mpower People CIC is a not-for-profit social enterprise Community Interest Company. Mpower People CIC provide activities which empower individuals towards living healthier, more independent lives, relating to increasing sustainable employment opportunities, enterprise development or personal development.

Michelle Smith founded the company in April 2009 when she identified a need in the Community, to create youth opportunities for the young people of Toxteth and Kensington. We were then able to deliver employment support (Michelle worked as a Volunteer as an experienced employment coach to deliver job-cafes in the Community), and youth provision, such as Dance workshops and general youth engagement and support.

Michelle Smith has an extensive track record of Community and Voluntary sector work, as she has been working in this field since the age of 14.

In June 2017, Michelle was named by the Independent as one of "Top 50 most inspirational people in the UK" for her work in Mpower People CIC.

Through the Big Enterprise in Communities (BEiC) programme, Michelle supported 134 people from deprived areas to explore enterprising skills and ideas, of these over 54 people started their own businesses.

We are seeking funding for Mpower People CIC to stay open and continue to deliver services to and support our disabled people, people with mental health issues, vulnerable older people and clients with learning difficulties. In the last 15 years, we have supported over 100 people with long term health conditions to improve their health and we have prevented over 23 suicides through our mental health crisis intervention work.

We are raising £1,000 for to continue our Mental Health Peer Support group as we have recently run out of funding for this project.

Activities that would continue include:

Art Therapy

Support with digital safety

Volunteer Opportunities
