Story
Archie 'Mr Clappy' Smith, a legend from Basingstoke, known for running around and clapping, sadly passed away on March 1st 2017.
We would like to remember him by collecting donations for a memorial, be it a plaque, bench or even a statue (dependent on total received) with the aim to be put up in or around the town centre where he was so often seen.
I personally didn't know 'Mr Clappy' but I think he deserves to be remembered. Any donations, however small, would be greatly appreciated.
Any left over donations will be passed to The Salvation Army.

Sorry for the lack of updates, apparently these things aren't as straight forward as I'd have liked! The latest update is that for the council to install a new memorial bench with plaque, and then maintain it, is £1000. As this is short of our total, they have suggested a plaque on an existing bench at the top of town (New Road, behind McDonalds, where the new traffic lights have been installed - town side of the road). I think with the £442 raised this will be the best option, unless anyone else can suggest something within the next few days.
