Story

Hi, My name is Matthew and I am one of four leaders that are responsible for taking 36 young people, from across Wiltshire and Somerset, to the 24th World Scout Jamboree.

Background

The 24th World Scout Jamboree will be held between 22nd July and 2nd August 2019. It is held every four years with around 45,000 attending from over 150 different countries. This year it will be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, America.

The World Scout Jamboree is an event aimed at bringing together cultures and communities from around the world to seek new adventures and experiences. As part of the unit leader team, our aim is to inspire them to grab hold of this opportunity that they have been given.

The cost for me to attend the Jamboree is £4,000. This covers everything from my flights and accommodation (tents - not 5* hotels!) and also helps to support members from poorer countries to attend.

What am i doing?

To help me fund my journey, I have been set the challenge by one of my unit members of completing a marathon on roller skates.

I do not recall ever putting on roller skates so the challenge is difficult enough, but to add to this, my first opportunity to complete the challenge is in only 7 weeks time.

I will be participating in regular training and practice sessions to enable me to complete the challenge whilst using it as an opportunity to improve my fitness as part of my own personal development.

I am really looking forward to the challenge, and hope you will consider supporting me towards my goal.
