Story
We are raising funds to help provide a defibrillator for use within MSF Fitness and to support the wider community of Stafford Park, Telford.
With over 200 clients using our fitness facility each week, we want to ensure that in the event of one of our clients getting into difficulty, we could give them the best possible chance of survival by having a defibrillator on the premises.
Immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and early defibrillation, with an automated external defibrillator (AED), can more than double a victim’s chance of survival. In fact, early defibrillation, along with CPR, is the only way to restore the victim’s heart rhythm to normal in a lot of cases of cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation, however, the chances of survival decrease by 7–10%.
There are four time-sensitive links that must occur rapidly for the victim to have a chance at survival:
• Early recognition of the emergency and activation of the local emergency response system
• Early bystander CPR
• Early delivery of a shock with a defibrillator
• Early, advanced life support followed by post resuscitation care
Research has shown that the first three links are directly related to patient survival.
Any donations would be very gratefully received, to make this purchase possible.
