Hello everyone!

My name is Cristina, I'm 24 years old and I've volunteering as a nurse in Malawi for 3 months. Mua has been my "home away from home" and Mua Mission Hospital has been one of the most welcoming and warm health institutions I've ever been to.

Funded in 1429, Mua Mission Hospital is now divided in different departments such as: Maternity, Paediatrics, General Ward, Theatre, Laboratory, Dentist, Pharmacy.

Everyday, dozens of patients come to Mua from several villages around, to be seen at the hospital. Everyday, this patients will find really dedicated and warm-hearted medical and nursing staff, that would go beyond themselves to save the lives of those in need.

Unfortunately, and as many other hospitals in Malawi, Mua Mission Hospital faces now big financial challenges that have been limiting doctors and nurses in treating patients properly.

As shocking as it may seem, it happens that there are no emergency drugs to administer to children having seizures, there are no giving sets or blood units to transfuse blood, there are no painkillers to give to the post-ceasarian mothers, no appropriate equipment to properly diagnose several diseases (and I could go on and on).

It's impressive to assist the great level of care that is still provided, considering the poor resources of the hospital - and sometimes this means that nurses and doctors are not getting their salaries on time but would still go to work.

For all this reasons (and some other more than you can probably gather) I've decided to start a crowdfunding in order to help out this Hospital that has been helping me and so many people so much. According to the amount raised, I'll find the best way to help out in a sustainable way, with the help of the matron and administration.
