Story
Along with a team of 9 others, I visited an orphanage operating in Zambia during 2017 to volunteer to do some building work and general maintenance. Also on the site, there was a primary school which as well as educating the children living in the orphanage, also was attended by the children from the local village of Mulyata. These children were very poor and were visibly under-nourished. Many of the children did not eat everyday.
We want to help these children by establishing a feeding station in their village - with the aim of providing at least one nourishing meal per day to each child.
We are travelling to Zambia in May to purchase a plot of land and begin planning to build a 'community kitchen' that can feed the children. Our plan is to also benefit the wider community by arranging with local people to grow as much of the food needed for the feeding scheme in return for a fair price for the crops. In addition, the scheme will provide employment initially for 2 people to operate and manage the scheme, with the potential for more as the scheme grows.
Help us help the children of Mulyata, please donate to help us get the feeding station established.

5 years agoWe're pleased to report that drilling for water at the site in Mulyata has been completed, striking water at 35 metres deep! This will provide water for the building project and also eventually for the feeding program. A huge thank you to all of you who have supported the work to get it to this point. We hope to start work on foundations for the feeding station in the next few weeks. @ Kitwe, Copper Belt, Zambia

5 years agoWe have taken a huge step forward in the last week. Work has started to clear the land in preparation for the water bore hole to be drilled and then for foundations to be started. There is no machinery so we have employed a team of people from the village who are clearing the area by hand using machetes. Once the vegetation is cleared, the ground will be levelled using a traditional 'foot stamping' method. This should be completed in about 2 weeks.

5 years agoWe just returned home from Zambia 2 weeks ago. During our trip we took the following actions: • We purchased 1 hec of land adjacent to the village school • Agreed to drill a water bore hole to provide clean water • A village co-op will be set up to grow crops required by the feeding program • We plan to bring electricity into the village . • Employed a local project manager & 2 cooks who will prepare/ cook the food for the children, starting the feeding program by November 2019. 8 gbp /$10 /mnth will provide 1 high nutrition meal per day
