I am raising money for the Salaam Baalak trust through sponsorship of a half marathon that I will be running. They support children with no families or from very poor backgrounds in Mumbai.

I have visited the Boy’s night shelter in Andheri, which is close to my work. and met with some of the volunteers and boys living there. It seemed like a very warm and friendly environment.

I will be running the Mastek Foundation half marathon run on 13th November and hope you can sponsor me to raise money for this cause.

In the last twenty seven years Salaam Baalak Trust has helped thousands of children come off the streets and into a safe and nurturing environment.
Our programmes include :

Day Care Centre – For the older street children upto 18 years where the emphasis is on education

Night shelter – For some street children who don’t have a safe place to go to at night.

Education – Formal and non-formal

Nutrition – A hot mid-day meal and morning and evening snacks. Children at the Night shelter also get breakfast and dinner. Additional nutrition for those that require it.

Medical & Health Care – As and when needed. Preventive checkups, discussion and counseling also takes place to encourage best health and hygiene practices.

Extra-curricular activities – Opportunities for all round development such as art, craft, dance, sports, etc.

Counselling & Life Skills – A professional counselor does one-on-one and group sessions to handle various issues. Talks and discussions are also held to provide Life Skills training.

Over 26 years of our existence we have several success stories with children becoming nurses, beauticians, judo instructors and DJs amongst many other professions.
