Weʼre raising £5,000 to help mums beat loneliness, and reduce the likelihood of PND, through meeting for safe and local playdates.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

Being a new mum is tough. And motherhood in the 21st century can be even tougher as mums often don’t live near family and friends for support. This can make it very lonely, which can unfortunately lead to mental health issues such as Post Natal Depression, which now effects at least 1 in 5 mums:

So the MummyLinks community is pulling together to help all mums struggling with loneliness, and in particular the 1 in 5 who struggle with their mental health by running to raise money for the further development of the app! And we need your support by donating to help us around the race.

Some are avid runners pushing themselves to the limits. Others are new to running and will be training for the very first time. See profiles below! If you want to run and raise please do get in touch: info@mummylinks.com

Last year we raised nearly £4k which had enabled the launch of a basic app due out in June. This year we are looking to raise more money to add extra features to make it even better for mums struggling with loneliness across the UK.

The donations will go towards app development and maintenance costs, enabling thousands of mums across the UK to beat loneliness and create those support “villages” once again.

Jenny, SE London, 10k race on 28th June:

A year after my second child I was feeling frumpy and dissatisfied with my postpartum body. I knew if I didn’t do something about it nothing would change so I decided to do a couch to 5K. A year on I have been consistently running but this will be my first 10K race ever! I am running on behalf of the Woman Meets Motherhood team to show my support for MummyLinks and the much needed work Emily does.

Emily, SW London, couch to 5km by 28th July:

I used to be quite fit, but after having my son I have lost every ounce of fitness! So I'm going to do a couch to 5k. And who knows - maybe a 10k after that. I did two 10k races pre-baby but the thought of doing one now seems impossible - but let's see what the next few months bring! I am running because I want to show that anyone can run and raise even if they have no fitness!

Becky, Swindon, Half Marathon on 9th September:

I'm from a running family, but didn't get into it until my son was 18 months. For various reasons it had been a tough time, but I found running was a great way to clear my head. I did a few races then got injured and then pregnant again! I am now building the miles up again and look forward to running a half marathon in Sept to support MummyLinks!

Ruth, Bristol, Half Iron Man (!) on 23rd September

I've always enjoyed keeping fit, and love to cycle. But I've got more into running and swimming in the past few years. Above is the sheer relief at finishing my first tri last year! As Emily's sister-in-law I wanted to help her raise much needed funds for her amazing MummyLinks project. So I'm really pushing it this time with a Olympic distance tri as training in July for the Half Iron man in Sept! Wish me luck!

MummyLinks is a free new app that helps mums meet locally for safe playdates. It gets mums out of the house to meet and support each other.

I really want to have more mum friends but I don't want to use apps that feel like I am online dating! The MummyLinks approach is just perfect!

The experience was hugely out of my comfort zone, I have recently finished CBT for PND and anxiety. I avoided meeting new people and generally didn't enjoy baby groups whilst my daughter was small. Throughout my treatment my therapist kept saying the best possible therapy would be to get out there and chat to other mums - turns out he was right.

    I completed my 3rd week of the couch to 5k yesterday and it's going well! I had to take a few days break as I physically couldn't fit a run in which made it a bit tougher, but looking forward to running every other day again now. I've really noticed it helping with my energy levels and I'm really enjoying (slowly!) getting fitter again!
