Story
I was diagnosed with cancer and have decided to use my time to hopefully inspire others who are facing life-limiting challenges to create art and music.
I set myself a limited amount of time to organise a unique music event and presently have everything in place to make this event happen.
The event is called Music Beats Cancer - An Evening of Minimalist and Experimental Music with Christopher Chaplin & Guests. Set in the stunning venue of Chetham's School of Music in Manchester the event will also raise much needed funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. Swiss born composer Christopher Chaplin (youngest son of Charlie and Oona O'Neill Chaplin) will be performing live amongst musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). Christopher said:
I'm looking forward to performing alongside esteemed musicians from Manchester for a great cause. Let's help music beat cancer!
Myself, well... my name is John Katsoulieri from Rochdale in Greater Manchester. The video above gives you a brief overview of what we are aiming to achieve.
After I was diagnosed, and as soon as I picked myself up, I decided to quit worrying and create music with whatever time I have. I'm aiming to use this event to raise the hopes of others who may be in the same situation that all is not lost, that it's never too late, and to continue going on until it is no longer possible.
The event will showcase performers and musicians from around Manchester and will include music by composers such as Steve Reich, Philip Glass & Carly Comando performed by RNCM, and myself. I've composed three short pieces of music, and currently on a steep learning curve with regards to learning to to conduct amongst much that I need to accomplish. But we are on track. Kind of.
What's missing? The funds to pay for the event and all the associated running and hire costs. We need around £1500 to make this happen - can you help?
