We are a community voluntary none profit organisation trying to help young girls within the Yorkshire area MWA is a help/support line for Muslim Girls who are suffering in silence from: Domestic Violence, rape/sexual abuse, depression, mental health, self harm, suicidal thoughts, forced marriages, housing, homelessness, immigration, isolation,language barriers.
As an organisation we have a number of aims we would like to achieve, we have outlined some of our aims below.
We aim to support girls through some of the most traumatic times they may face, by not only helping them emotionally but more importantly safeguarding them to make sure all right procedures are put in place to ensure their SAFETY.
The volunteers on the support lines are able to speak a number of different languages, such as English, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic and other languages, by having this facility in place it allows the girls to seek help/support without having to worry about people not being able to understand them or understand their religion/culture.
As an organisation we are aware that within Yorkshire the population of Muslim girls is extremely high and research conducted shows that 1 in 4 women suffer from some form of abuse, throughout their lifetime.
After conducting surveys and questionnaires within Yorkshire, the results show Muslim girls are hesitant to come forward, as they feel that there is a big cultural difference. The volunteers for MWA all have various experience in working within this sector and working for some of the above organisation.
There are a number of workshops we will be running for the young girls accessing the service. The workshops we will be running are to empower and educate the young girls on Domestic Violence awareness, how to have a healthy relationship, depression and mental health. We offer art healing classes to the girls and also talk healing, we are aware a lot of victims find it hard talking about these topics, as they are very sensitive topics.
