Story
Schools are desperate for guidance on how to effectively support the mental health needs of their young people.
As a teacher, I witnessed just how desperate young people and their families are for support. Three years ago, I discovered a new form of mental health and wellbeing education that is proving to be exceptionally effective in the US.
I have spent the last two years trialing this new understanding of the mind at schools in Hertfordshire and Essex and been amazed by the results. School cultures have dramatically changed and this is a cost-effective and quick method of preventing stress and mental illness.
I know that this holds the key to ensuring that young people, teaching staff and families experience high levels of resilience, synergy, peace of mind and health.
We want to provide a training programme called The School Mental Health Support Programme. This will run from September 2019 - July 2020. It will require two members of staff from 18 state schools across Hertfordshire and Essex (7 primary schools, 7 secondary schools and 4 severe learning disabilities schools).
The aim of this course is to ensure that schools become effective centres for the support and prevention of mental health and wellbeing issues, not only in the students, but in staff and parents as well. We want people to build strong relationships in their school communities and fulfil their potential by addressing and preventing mental health and wellbeing issues at the earliest possible stage.
