Helping a friend …..

My Gambian Adventure

Many years ago, 16 years ago to be precise I was in the Gambia (West Africa) undertaking voluntary work in a small village called Kunkujang.

Whilst I was there I stayed with a family who had a son – Karamo who was a few years younger than me. Over the time I was in the Gambia, Karamo and his family didn’t only provide me with shelter and food they became my Gambian Family!

Karamo gave up his bed and his room for me, if I needed anything he was always there, he became my right-hand man more importantly he became a true friend.

Karamo Today

Upon my return to the UK I stayed in contact with Karamo, unfortunately as the years passed we lost contact, however I recently managed to locate Karamo and we are now back in contact with each other.

Karamo is now married and had 2 children, unfortunately his daughter passed away as a baby. Karamo and his family have struggled economically, so in desperation he has left his family to try and secure work in neighbouring Mauritania. Currently Karamo lives on the streets in Mauritania doing whatever work he can to support his family back in Gambia. Most days he struggles to earn enough money to feed him- self himself whilst living with the added stress that he needs to provide for his wife, son and mother back in Gambia.

Karemo’s Future

I would love for as many people as possible to help me give Karamo and his family some dignity and an opportunity for him to work and provide for his family in the Gambia. I am aiming to raise £6k, this will provide Karamo with money to purchase livestock, crops that he can grow and harvest and a vehicle. As little as £6k will not only change Karamo’s live but the life of his son and potentially future generations.
