Story

Hello everyone!

Myla Lear and her best friend Lacie Dargan are raising money for 3 good causes. The girls have decided to climb Mount Snowdon in Wales and as committed members of their local scouting group have no doubt they can take on the challenge - both are determined to complete the hike up and down the mountain without too much drama or fuss! Having already spent many days and nights hiking and camping in all weather conditions with their Scout group we are confident they have the right attitude to succeed. Their mums will accompany both the girls and all funds raised will be divided equally between the following;

1) TGRF Gosh Renal

In April 2015 at the age of 9 Myla had a kidney transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Undergoing Dialysis treatment for 15 months meant that Myla could not participate in any sports - as a result she lost a huge amount of confidence. In 2016 she was invited to join the Great Ormond Street Renal Team at the British Transplant Games. Myla has now completed 2 games and won a bunch of medals. There are simply no words to fully describe what this yearly summer event has done for her – her self-confidence in sport has truly sky-rocketed and she spends her year training with the Games in mind – all good news in terms of keeping that kidney nicely pumped!!

The GOSH Renal Team is of course totally run on the (free) goodwill of the GOSH Renal transplant nurses & staff who all give up their valuable time to ensure that the annual 4 day occasion runs smoothly. This charity is not connected to the bigger Great Ormond Street charity and totally relies on separate funds. All the nurses and staff encourage all their (post-transplant) kidney patients to take part – the positive therapeutic / psychological impact is truly priceless. The cost of sending 1 family to the games can range from £500 to £1,000.

2) Magical Taxi Tour

For the past 6 years Lacie has watched her mum Leigh give up her valuable free time once a year to drive a black cab to Disneyland Paris on behalf of the Magical Taxi Tour charity. These black cabs take very sick children and their families on a wonderful and memorable 3-day trip of a lifetime. The therapeutic value of giving children, who have life-threatening illnesses, these kinds of breaks is well documented. It can really give them the much needed boost to cope with long-term gruelling medical issues. The cost of sending one black cab to Paris is £1,450. Lacie is still too young to drive her own cab and indeed still too young to accompany her mum! She has decided however that she is not too young to climb a mountain and would therefore like to raise as much as she can to contribute to the charity like her mum does.

3) 2nd East London Scouts

Lacie and Myla met when they were cubs. They have transitioned together to become proud Scouts and this year have both been selected to travel to Serbia and participate in a Scouting Jamboree. A condition of the selection is to part-raise their individual costs - bank of mum and dad is doing the other part! With this in mind the girls have already baked and sold homemade goods at their own bake sale, will soon be selling goodies door-to-door in their neighbourhood and of course climb Snowdon. The funds raised will help cover not only their outstanding costs, but also contribute to the group costs as a whole.

Thank you for taking the time to read, share and hopefully donate!

Love from
