Story
The Myles Standish garden is a public picnic area built to commemorate Chorley's link with Myles Standish and the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower sailing to America.
The Myles Standish Garden Association aims to promote the preservation in perpetuity of the Myles Standish Garden at Duxbury, Chorley with the objectives of
• Involving local schools in caring for and planting indigenous English & American species in the garden on a rotating annual pattern
• Stimulating young people’s interest in history, the environment and gardening
• Providing a beautiful place for young people and their families to enjoy
There is an annual Myles Standish Day as near as feasible to 4th July.
The “Custodian Spade for the year” is handed on at successive Myles Standish Days to the next school responsible for the upkeep of the garden.
Funds are needed to provide transport for the children, to cover maintenance expenses and to replace the wicker Mayflower sculpture.
