I've raised £1500 to bring back the jacaranda trees to the heart of Muzuzu, Malawi's most beautiful city

Mzuzu, the most northerly city in Malawi, one of the world's poorest countries, is famous for its glorious jacaranda trees.
Unfortunately, last year the city council had to remove many of the trees, so that they could upgrade the main street, and now they cannot afford to replace them.
The former mayor of Mzuzu, Alexander Mwakikunga, is determined to restore the trees that mean so much to the people of Mzuzu and the many visitors who spend time in this friendly city. We can help him do that by raising the money needed to plant and tend the new trees.
We need £2,000 to cover all the costs, from buying the young saplings and top soil, to covering the cost of planting them and looking after them while they grow. We are working directly with the city's Director of Parks and Environment, Mr Mtafya, and will draw up an agreement with the council once we have reached our target.
The UK's leading forestry company, Tilhill Forestry, has already generously donated £500, so we are well on our way to meeting our target.
We all know how important trees are to the environment, and nowhere more so than in Malawi, which is already suffering the impact of climate change, with erractic rainfall patterns and increased temperatures. The more trees we plant together, the better it is for all of us.
