    Story

'Linked' - a production to keep young people safe online

Young people are particularly vulnerable to internet safety - and N-Act Theatre in School's production is making a difference!

We would like to perform our show during internet safety week (week beginning February 5th) in as many libraries and schools in Essex as possible! We are a not-for-profit organisation but do have to pay our actors! To perform 10 performances during this week, we need a total of £4,500.

What impact have we had so far?

Over 3,000 young people have seen 'Linked' during November and December. They said:

It’s vital all schools see this!

Make sure children all over the UK realise this information, from the girl who checks the terms and conditions!

Thank you, this helped me a lot. Should be shown to parents

Thank you. This is helpful to us and should be shown to parents to identify risks. It was easy to relate to and gave real life examples

Despite the growing awareness of how we need to keep ourselves safe online, despite the many videos, information seminars and supportive websites, many still fail to acknowledge that they need to do more to keep themselves safe. There are still too many stories in the news of bullying, grooming, trafficking, radicalisation, identity theft – and sadly the consequences of depression and self-harm which can be brought about by the negative impact of social media.

I wanted to say that I am really sure of what I want to do now. I want to act to raise awareness of topics like e-safety and bullying. Please come back!

It inspires me to act more and to stay safe on line. I think that you should do more of these performances.

You are an amazing group of people who leave impact on people’s lives making them better.

This play is a unique, humorous and hard-hitting journey into a world that could exist if we continue to take such little care with our use of the internet. The accompanying workshop helps students to understand how they can maintain their personal privacy; it attends to password security; it explores the nature of online friendships; it examines how to deal with something they might find uncomfortable; it talks about how the potential impact of sharing information and pictures; and it stresses the importance of keeping open conversations with parents about their online activities.

Fast paced sequences with strong, hard hitting messages (teacher)

Different and unique take on internet safety (student)

And the statistics, gathered before and after the performances show that we are making a difference!

    * 3,000+ students have seen this production and been introduced to theatre

    * Out of all the students who thought they were extremely confident in their knowledge of Internet safety 98% stated they learnt something new from watching ‘Linked’

    * 93% of the students want us to come back with another show in the future

    * 100% of the schools want us to come back!

This play is very well acted and gives out a message so strong about internet safety, it should be a must for all adults as well as children. It certainly makes you think before you post!
