As a second generation Filipino-American, I was raised by my parents to honor my roots and love my country. They taught me that America was a place where regardless of race, religion, or what you looked like, you could be and do anything if you worked hard enough to get it. I've taken that philosophy with me as an expat living in Spain, actively advocating on behalf of the US wherever I can.

But after this election, I was just like many of you. Devastated. Confused. Heartbroken. Questioning everything I believed I knew about my country.

Most of all, I felt powerless.

But no longer.

Activism and advocacy are needed now more than ever. And there are a host of organizations doing just that.

Which is why every month, I'll be creating a crowdfunding page for different non-profits that need our help.

In the wake of the increase in racially-charged attacks and harassment around the country, the first organization I have chosen is the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund. Let's help them continue protecting civil rights and ensuring equality for all Americans. Let's help them fight for racial justice through litigation, advocacy and education.
