Story

If you are lucky like me, you will have met someone who, in a very short space of time, becomes a really dear friend. Naomi is one such person – she is the one with the glamorous eyewear in the photo :-)

I met Naomi in 2014 when we were both working hard as volunteers on the tenant committee of our local housing association. We were doing something that Naomi excels at, which is trying to help others and make life better for them.

Naomi and I hit it off from the start having both got a similar sense of humour as well as a similar sense of duty.

The more I got to know Naomi, the more amazed I was, and continue to be, at how she manages to deal with everything life throws at her and still keep a smile on her face. Not only was she a volunteer at the housing association but she also volunteered with the Citizens Advice Bureau and fitted in taking a degree with the Open University at the same time.

However, it’s not just these achievements that make Naomi such a special person.

Up until four weeks ago, Naomi was the full-time carer for her lovely husband Peter, who sadly has vascular dementia. She also cares for her autistic son who lives at home as well as helping her daughter with her two very young children.

Naomi never puts herself first and will always do what she can for her friends and most especially for her family. That is why it is so heartbreaking that a few short weeks ago, Naomi was diagnosed with an uncurable brain tumour, which will soon rob her family and friends of having this special person in our lives.

Whilst in hospital, Naomi has told me how much she would love to go on holiday to Cornwall with her family. I wish I was a millionaire and could afford to do this for her but sadly I’m not so please, give what you can to help this amazing human being have her wish come true and help create lasting memories for her family.

If you are a UK taxpayer and can Gift Aid your donation, I would be most grateful.

Thank you for your time and generosity.
