Weʼre raising £10,000 to help families with severe malnutrition in the remote mountains of Guatemala

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE PROJECT?
Rony (pictured above) is one of the many children and babies we have helped out of life-threatening malnutrition.
Like all the Q'eqchi' Mayans we work with, his family lives in extreme poverty, in a basic shelter with no electricity, and no clean drinking water.
While the children recuperate through our nutrition centre, it is vital that their families receive training to prevent more young lives being put at risk.
HOW ARE WE GOING TO ACHIEVE IT?
With a homestead where parents will learn how to grow vegetables and rear hens for eggs. Parasites are a big factor in malnutrition, so there will also be a model house to show how the home and drinking water can be made safe. And while the parents learn new skills, the children´s health and weights will be monitored.
Families will end their training with seeds and chicken "starter kits" to take home. They will also benefit from education in child care, including how to make nutritious meals from the food they produce. And with up to 14 children born in one family, they will have access to life-changing and free family-planning services.
WHO ARE WE GOING TO HELP?
We have already raised the funds to buy two acres of land with its own spring - walking distance from some 4,000 families.
So far this year 12 children have died from malnutrition, and six mothers didn´t survive childbirth. The government does not help these families in any way. With your support, we now need to raise 10,000 pounds to get the homestead established and help prevent these needless fatalities in children.
Thank you, on the families´ behalf, for your support!

Narú works with Q'eqchi' families in a remote mountainous region. Last year nearly 700 children from 143 communities were helped out of severe malnutrition. A registered charity in Guatemala, we have also been validated by the UK's Charities Aid Foundation for Gift Aid.
