Story
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. May the peace and blessings of the Almighty Allah (swt) be on the best of Mankind, Our Leader and Master, the last of the sent ones, his companions and the rest of us that follow the Deen Islam, he was sent with to the Day of Judgment.
Our organization, registered under the Charity Commission, is a branch of NASFAT Global with its headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria. NASFAT (Manchester) has been in existence since 2004. The organization, like similar Islamic organizations, creates opportunities for Muslims and non-Muslims alike to learn and understand Islam through practice, lectures, workshops, dialogues, social interactions and engagements. We promote religious tolerance and oppose extremism by working and collaborating with authority and government agencies, British Council of Masjids and other inter-faith institutions locally and across the UK.
Between the period 0f 2004 and 2013, the organization had no permanent place of worship. We moved from one venue to another in a nomadic fashion. In 2013, by Allah’s special grace and massive support from the Muslim Ummah within and outside the UK, Allah was able to purchase for us a property which used to be Methodist Church at Newton Heath, Manchester and this was converted to our masjid and educational center. The Centre flourished all year round with activities for its membership, neighbours and others from far and near regardless of their age, race or gender.
Unfortunately, the fame and increase in activities of the masjid and educational centre was matched in parallel by untoward incidents inflicted on us by those who did not like our presence in the area. Thus, we suffered several hate, anti-social and islamophobic attacks between 2013 and 2017 including vandalization of structures and installations (including CCTVs), petrol bombing, burning of our commuter bus and dropping of a pig’s head of the masjid. The climax was the incidence of July 2017 when the entire masjid was set ablaze by unknown arsonist/s. The masjid was extensively damaged and could no longer be used for any activities since then.
What has happened since then and where are we now?
1. We have received massive moral support from the Muslim Ummah, government and non-governmental organizations and law enforcement agencies in investigating the cause of the arson incident and providing us guidance on how to move forward;
2. Local masjids and individuals have allowed us the use of their facilities for our weekly prayer meetings. May Allah reward them abundantly, Amen;
3. Our builders have estimated that we would need between £280,000 and £300,000 for repair works to get the masjid back to a full functioning state;
4. Our loss adjusters working with our insurance company have worked out that we could retrieve up to about £170,000 for the repairs of the facility but no payments have been received to date;
5. We are therefore in a shortfall of about £100,000 to complete the re-building and renovation of the building;
6. We have raised over £50,000 internally which have been deployed to commence the repair works which currently is in top gear.
Our humble/urgent request
We urgently need donations (Lilahi, Zakat, Zadakat) of the remaining £50,000 - £70,000 to ensure the completion of the building works inshallah before the start of Ramadan in first week of May 2019;
We also need short-term Islamic loans (Qarsi Hassana) to ensure continuation of work at the site pending payment by Insurance Company. The loans will be repaid as soon as we receive the payments from the Insurance Company
Allah (swt) says in Q2 vs 261: “Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seek (of grain) which grows seven spikes, in each spike is a hundred grains…And Allah multiplies (His reward) for whom He wills. And Allah is all-encompassing and Knowing”
May Allah reward you abundantly and you contribute to His cause.
