Story

Thank you everyone, this is now finished. We raised £635 and the winner was @rollwithit27 xxx

As many of you know earlier this year we lost our beautiful dog Silva, in a tragic accident. While walking in the countess park in Chester, Silva slipped down a grass bank and was sucked into a hidden flood relief drain.

Stride out for Silva was set up to raise funds for a safe area in Silva’s memory for dogs to enjoy. The amazing group behind this has also worked hard to have the area in the park made safe and in June this happened. New signs and railings were put up.

We are still a little way off our 5k fundraising target and so when the opportunity presented itself to me I thought I could maybe raise a little more!

I would also like to donate some of the funds raised to YDA. They provide support and activities for families with deaf or hearing impaired children and they were an invaluable support for a friend of mine.

As part of my work with Man City I was lucky enough to meet your new signing Riyad Mahrez. I quickly went to the City Store and purchased a new 18/19 Mahrez City shirt (£80 worth!!!) and I managed to get him to sign it.

I would like to give this way in a free prize draw. (Legally I can't call this what it is!). So if you would like to take part please make a donation. I am suggesting £5 but anything is welcome!

For any donations of £5 or less you will get 1 entry. £10 is 2 entries, £15 is 3 entries etc etc

Please make sure to leave your name and Twitter name so I can notify the winner! I will write everyone's names out and then I will do a draw live on Instagram. I will do this in 7 days time, so next thursday night around 8:30pm (after reggies bed time!!).

I hope this all makes sense! Any questions ask me on twitter!

Thanks in advance everyone x

This is what i wrote on facebook the day of Silvas death x

“I can’t believe I am writing this. But today we said goodbye to our beautiful girl Silva. While walking in the countess of Chester park, as we have done numerous times before, she slipped down the side of Knoll Bridge, fell in the water and drowned.

We are currently in shock and are deeply grieving over this tragic accident. Silva was a beautiful dog, gentle, kind and fun. She was a member of our family. We were looking forward to her walking down the aisle at our wedding and growing up with Reggie.

Silva was always a keen and strong swimmer, however we now know this small area of water is not what it first seems and there is infact a small tunnel under the concrete bridge and an extremely strong current. So strong that it nearly sucked under the grown men who jumped in to try and save her.

Although there are small signs on the bridge stating a drowning warning, we are stunned at how dangerous this water really is. There is no grate covering the tunnel, which would have stopped silva being sucked through. There is also minimal railings on the edge, giving the impression of minimal risk. The fireman who attended were also shocked at what they saw and said they plan to contact the water agency too.

What is truly scary is silva was a medium sized german Shepard/collie cross and it took 2 fireman to lift her to our car. If she can so easily be drowned, then so could any child. The park is always full of dogs and children, it is a wonder this hasn’t happened before and we truly hope no one has to go through this heartache again.

RIP Silva beautiful girl, we will miss you forever 💙”
