We are doing a fun fundraising event to raise money for an incredible cause - the GEM appeal.

GEM was founded only in 1994, but has astonishingly since raised £2.7m thanks to the efforts of the incredible lady Karen Johnson who sadly lost both her sons at the age of 12 years to a rare genetic and incurable disorder. Karen recently won a Pride of Britain Award for her outstanding journey because as a result of Karen's fundraising, children now have more readily available trials and treatments to slow down progression of the illness. However, as it stands - there is still NO CURE. So we MUST continue to fundraise and raise awareness for children fighting such rare illnesses.

Close friends of ours Jen and Andy's daughter was born with a rare genetic disorder. Millie was diagnosed with PKU at only a few weeks old. Millie has blood taken once a week to check her levels are stable and attends the Willink Unit every three months for a developmental check which includes measuring and weighing plus dietary advice and support regarding introducing new foods to Millie's diet.

Thanks to Karen's efforts, Millie was diagnosed from birth and lives a normal life, albeit she has to keep her condition in check! Millie is an outstanding little girl and an absolute pleasure to know, it is so sad that she will always have to monitor her condition as currently there is no cure. Ben and I would like to fundraise for Millie and all children facing these life limiting illnesses.
