    Story

We found out about 3 months ago that my dad had bowel cancer. This was a very difficult and scary time and the time between each appointment and tests seemed to take forever.

We found out after scans that the cancer was quite small and local to the area so surgery was the best option. This made us feel so much better and even though there was still risks from the operation as there always is we thought it's ok the cancer can be gotten rid of easily and he's going to be ok. Everything will be ok.

My dad had surgery and made it through fine. I visited the next day and he was in his pajamas sat in the chair and had had breakfast and been given a wash. He was fine.

I visited 2 days later to be told he had become incontinent. He was hardly drinking and was refusing food. He was in bed and looked very pale but this could have been because of the accidents and he was tired but he looked unwell and I was worried.

The next day I got a call to go in as he had become very unwell and had asked for me. I got there just before they were taking him down for a ct scan to find out what was going on. This was the last time I saw my dad awake and the last time I know for sure he heard me say I love him.

He was rushed straight back to surgery as the join from his surgery had come open and so stuff from his colon had leaked inside him. I was told there was a 50 percent mortality rare and if he pulled through he would be very poorly and it would be a bumpy ride. I still thought he'd be fine.

Because of the leak he had pretty bad sepsis. I was called about 2.20 the next morning as he had gone downhill. His blood pressure had dropped and he was becoming more and more reliant on the machines and drugs. He was monitored throughout the morning but his blood became more acidic and there was no improvement at all, stats just kept dropping and he had gone in to multiple organ failure and they had to turn the machines off.

He had no insurance or savings so here I am.
