Thanks for taking time to visit my JustGiving Page.
Ok, so im hoping to help raise some money for a friend (Doddie Weir) recently diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease and their family, as well as to help towards research of MND... that will hopefully lead towards finding a cure!
Doddie is an inspiration, and has set up a Trust in response to being diagnosed with MND. Doddie Weir'5 Discretionary Trust. The DW5's aim is to support Doddie, Kathy and their family in the months and years ahead as they live with his, currently, incurable condition.
Not too often in life you watch a sport and a local guy becomes "a hero" for myself, many children and adults alike...then you become friends with them and their family! Anyone that knows Doddie, for 1 man he is a hilariously funny big gentle giant (off the rugby field) 😂 with an equally sized heart and thankfully sense of humor. He is a top lad, whom sadly recently became diagnosed with MND.
I can't quite say i remember leaving Doddie and Kathys every night i went up :-) ...He assumes everyone can drink as much and quickly as he can, forgetting he is about 2ft taller than most ;-) I was sadly unable to take part in the 5k fun run and walk for MND at Holyrood in August, so got intouch and asked would they mind if i tried to help raise some pennies doing a different run. I worked in the local nursery with their youngest Ben, and then went on to work in the Primary School and got to know Angus and Hamish also, the odd time i tagged along to pony club days out etc with Kathy (on the promise of food and wine after lol). These lads are not age 3 plus anymore, but beautiful teenagers and if i can help raise any amount of money to help these guys out im there!!
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a rapidly progressing terminal illness, which stops signals from the brain reaching the muscles. Also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease – MND is a progressive disease. It occurs when specialised nerve cells called motor neurons break down. These cells usually transmit messages from the brain and spinal cord to tell muscles in the body what to do. In MND, messages from the nerves gradually stop reaching the muscles, which causes them to weaken and waste away. Eventually, this leads to paralysis and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. There are no therapies that can stop progression of MND and little is known about why the disease strikes some but not others.
So all i ask is, if you can please dig deep and donate what you can. All money raised will go to Doddie Weir'5 Discretionary Trust, providing help for himself, his family as well as towards helping with research.
Thanks, Tash x
