Our Son Kyle was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 18 mths old, the diagnosis hit us hard but with hard work we knew we could improve Kyle's quality of life and independence. There are different types of cp, I didn't know much about this condition until now!
We have so many appointments including physio, hydrotherapy, music therapy, speech therapy...the list goes on. It has been worth it to see him develop into a very bubbly, chatty and happy boy.
The one thing that frustrates him is not being able to walk with his friends, it doesn't stop him though, he has mastered a very fast crawl!
We have never stopped research into other areas to help progress Kyle further.
I heard about an operation through a friend that takes place in America, after lots of form filling we have been accepted for surgery at St Louis hopsital for children.
Kyle will have what is called SDR which takes 4-5 hours and involves an operation on the nerves in his spinal cord, each nerve is tested to see which is causing the tightness in his muscles. The op will permanently reduce stiffness in his muscles to improve balance. The outlook is good, Kyle will be walking with crutches and I hope one day will walk independently. Along with this Kyle will have orthopaedic surgery to lengthen the calf muscle tissue to reduce toe walking and stiffness. We will be in America for 4 weeks, 3 weeks after surgery Kyle will undergo intensive phyiso as he will be very weak. Kyle will be undergoing a major operation, if we could have it for him we would, we hate the thought of it but we want the best start for him, its unconditional love and would do anything for him. I'm working on our fb page tasha worland and funds for kyle which will provide regular updates and more info on the operation and other charity events.
As you can imagine it's not cheap, it will cost around £40,000. We have a very supportive family that will help no matter what and would appreciate your help.
