Story
Out of 5000 applicants, I have successfully been accepted into the National Youth Theatre (NYT) in London!
The National Youth Theatre is a world-leading youth arts organisation, aimed at developing exceptional performers aged 14-25, giving them a platform for success. Some of their prestigious alumni include: Dame Helen Miren, Daniel Craig, Colin Firth, Orlando Bloom, Matt Smith, and Catherine Tate.
So how did this all happen? Let me get you up to speed!
I found my love for drama at Willetton Senior High School in 2008, and went on to study performance at Curtin University. At both schools I was awarded for my outstanding skill and contribution. In Perth I established a start to my career; developing and performing in sold out Fringe shows, performing at The Blue Room Theatre, Her Majesties Theatre, and working for the State Theatre Company.
In October 2016 I moved to London to develop my skills and career prospects. Since then I have been proactively seeking opportunities and experiences. My weeks are spent working two part time jobs, building my portfolio, applying for auditions, and volunteering at a North London theatre. It's been up and down since day dot. Progress is hard. But I've kept pushing - and I'm loving it.
In February 2017 I found NYT online. I learned a short monologue, and started rehearsing. Gradually rediscovering my confidence, I gave the audition my best shot. It wasn't until a night in mid May that I received an email telling me I had been successful!
So, what am I asking from you?
Being a developing artist who is financially independent makes an opportunity like this difficult to pursue. The NYT course runs 6 days/wk for a month - putting me out of work, and making living precarious. By giving anything you are able to give, you can help me accept my offer by covering a portion of the £989 course fee. Your generosity will make my goal a reality, so I can follow in the footsteps of the artists who came before me.
Thank you.
