Story

Nathan Hand, senior member and current U12s coach, is taking on an ultra-running challenge and attempting 7 half marathons in 7 consecutive days to help raise funds for the design and installation of all inclusive changing rooms and facilities at the club house. The challenge starts on Sunday 7th February.

As we look to the future, we are committed to making rugby accessible to everyone in Corby. However, our outdated changing facilities are holding us back, especially when it comes to encouraging more women and girls to join the game. These facilities no longer meet the needs of our members, and without improvements, our goal of increased participation is at risk.

Stewarts and Lloyds (Corby) RFC proudly boasts to be “a club that is a community orientated multi-functional facility providing a safe environment in which to enjoy rugby football and other activities”. The Club’s prestigious history is well documented and symbolises the determination and commitment of its volunteers in providing a community facility for over 75 years; making Stewarts and Lloyds (Corby) RFC the most successful rugby football club in the town.

The Club strives for continuous improvement on and off the field and has enjoyed recent success in securing funds to successfully complete a total refurbishment of our social space and kitchen areas as phase 1-3 of our 5 year improvement plan.

Our next endeavour is to improve and extend our accessibility to the wider community. We are acutely aware of an ageing population and the need to make our club fully accessible to the able and less-bodied population. Our proposal is to extend the clubhouse incorporating a disabled lift and disabled toilet. This will also create space for female changing facilities. A massive undertaking that will take a co-ordinated fundraising challenge by the membership and its commercial partners. Even in these bleak unprecedented times our dedicated volunteer members are rising to the challenge.

Our next steps on our fundraising journey is the 7 Day Challenge which is an organised individual challenge with all funds raised going directly to the design and installation of disabled facilities.
