Story

As some of you may or may not know, we had the unfortunate news that my mum was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.

Acute Myeloid Leaukeamia (AML) is a type of blood cancer that starts from young white blood cells called granulocytes or monocytes in the bone marrow. It is a very aggressive cancer and without treatment can be extremely threatening.

My mum started her journey with a lung infection which was followed by an eye infection that just would not heal. She made the choice to go to A&E in which the doctors took her bloods. They noticed immediately that something was not right.

We waited a few days for the results to come back and were pre-warned this could be the cause. I obviously, like most people thought my mum was superwoman and immune to everything. I have never known her to be seriously ill my whole life.

Unfortunately, on the morning of the results, we received the news that it was cancer, and that we had to act quickly. Mum was transferred to Ward 33 of Castle Hill hospital to begin the chemotherapy. The staff at the hospital have been amazing and are the reason my mum has been in such positive spirits about everything!

Chatting with my mum she thought it would be a great idea to raise money for the ward for much needed equipment.

A group of us will be taking on the challenge of walking the National 3 Peaks (UK) on 23rd August over 24 hours. This is not going to be an easy challenge, but a challenge i feel is of great significance. However, nothing compared to what my mum is battling and other people in the same circumstances experience.

I would kindly ask for any sort of donation to reach our target. 95% of us know someone who is affected by cancer and if anyone is interested in joining, please get in touch. The more people we can get involved, the more awareness we can raise.

Thank for your support.
