Founded as the Museum of Leathercraft in 1946, the National Leather Collection has remained in storage for thirty years. It is the world's largest collection of leather goods, ranging from the prehistoric to the modern day. We believe that this collection of leathercraft is of huge international significance, and is simply too important to be left in cardboard boxes.

With the help of a team of trustees, volunteers and the Heritage Lottery Fund, the NLC moved into its new home in the Grosvenor Centre, Northampton last year. In order to relaunch the museum and open regularly to the public, we must create a sustainable future for the collection.

We have a unique opportunity to give an internationally important collection back to the public. To celebrate Northamptonshire’s fascinating heritage in leather. To provide a free for entry community space. To become a focal point for craftspeople and their works. To create job and volunteering opportunities. To craft and sell hand-made leather goods. To host a venue for conferences and meetings. To engage with schools and provide learning experiences.

We want to be a museum for all.
