Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving.
As an adult survivor of childhood sexual abuse myself, I know only too well the lack of proper resources that are available and until the very recent disclosures in the media the way that this subject has been treated as taboo.
Many of the people that have been abused have for most of their Adult life struggled alone in trying to deal with the impacts by them self.
If you personally know someone that has been through this then I am certain that you will recognise some or all of the following traits.
Drug and or Alcohol misuse, unable to maintain friendships/relationships, ill founded trust issues, suicidal thoughts or attempts, many periods of feeling desolate and alone.
The above are only a few of the major long lasting effects of sexual abuse that quite simply do not leave the victim unless the right sort of framework of support and guidance are in place.
What I am aiming to do is to setup a National Survivors Network, this network is totally different to anything else available such as counselling.
So why doesn't counselling work for Survivors such as myself? Well like many of the Survivors out there when in crisis, we get put in contact with counsellors - with all the good intent in the world they are unable to reach us, because the damage done is so intense that the counsellor cannot empathize with the same passion, however Survivors like myself that have had the experience of peer - peer support and guidance can actually make a serious difference in a positive way to a Survivor.
What will the National Survivors Network do and why do we need your support?
We want to provide a dedicated support network with other Survivors that have worked their way through the mess and devastation being a fundamental key to unlock the potential and guide towards a happy fulfilled remainded of life.
Initailly a website where volunteer Councillors, mentors, Survivors can talk openly and safely, next meeting places and a national helpline.

I have heard from hosting company called SGIS (https://www.sgis.co.uk/) and they have provided initial web hosting for the website. Looking forwards to money donations so that modules for the website can be purchased and start to get core functionality in place. Thanks very much. Stephen
