At 8am on sunday the 24th of may, my dad began his usual walk to the shops to collect a paper for my nana. At 8:10am outside of Hillsview Avenue surgery (NE3 3LB), a reckess driver sped around a bend in the road, narrowly missing my dad, but unfortunatley hit and rolled with Naya.

Naya suffered two broken legs both on her right side as well as numerous cuts all over her body where the car rolled with her. On monday, Naya underwent her first surgery, in which they repaired her front fracture. However, due to the time limit of 3 hours on a surgery, the surgeons did not have time to repair her back leg. This means Naya will have to undergo another surgery in a few days time. Furthermore, due to the severity of the break on her back leg, she will have to wear a metal frame around her back leg for months after surgery.

The woman driving the light blue Ford mondeo esate (09 plate) explained that she was distracted and apologised but this is unsatisfactory as she should have easily seen a 6ft tall man and two dogs crossing the road if adhering to the speed limit. Driving this route often, I know how easy it is to see someone crossing the road, even in the dark never mind in plain daylight.

if this was not enough for my dad, a relative of the woman who ran over Naya (who followed my dad to the vets) turned up at the vets and began being verbally aggressive towards my dad. This is obviously harassment as my dad was trying to put Naya into the vets at the time and, furthermore, has limited speech due to suffering from a stroke many years ago. The vets did call the police, however, the man and woman disappeared before arrival. (The vets is Blythman and partners on Elsdon road, NE3 1JD if anyone is aware of any cctv round this area). This means we have no information regarding the woman who hit Naya and can not ask her to cover the vets bills. the cost of Naya’s surgeries and care is estimated at £7000. However, with the current coronavirus situation, all of my family is out of work, making these bills harder to cover. therefore, any help is greatly appriciated at this time.
