Story

Stop. Think. Did you know that "1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health problem" ?(estimate from the Mental Heath Foundation). Could it affect you? Somebody you know? Well, we're here to help with that.

We're a team of 16/17 year olds taking part in National Citizen Service (NCS Website ) to help impact our community and make a difference to people's lives. Mental Heath is very close to many of our team members, family, friends and community. We want to put our stamp on our work and make a difference in the Bournemouth area through raising much needed awareness, and generate funding to generate a sustainable impact in Dorset Mind's Work.

“I lied and said I was busy. I was busy; but not in a way most people understand. I was busy taking deeper breaths. I was busy silencing irrational thoughts. I was busy calming an irrational heart. I was busy telling myself I am okay. Sometimes this is my busy, and I will not apologise for it.” - B. Oakman

This quote explains why we're doing this. In this society. At this time. Mental Heath can not be seen - instead it is felt, it's a feeling within that can't be helped. We're raising awareness of mental heath in our local area to teach people to understand the true meaning of what it is like to have a mental illness. Mental heath is very close so many of us, and there simply hasn't been enough input from young people about making a difference in this area - but that's all about to change.

We fundraising to work with Dorset Mind mental health charity, which helps with all of the main areas of mental health. Support is provided for all those in need with any mental health illness.

From Monday 21st August we'll be out in the community fundraising for our project with plans for Charity quiz nights, dinners, cake sales and much more to take place.

Any donation large or small will make a considerable difference to our project. We're self funded in this project and anything you can give will make a difference and can only happen with support from people like yourself. From donating, we'll be more than happy to send you updates, a letter of thanks or a summary of our project upon completion on Friday 1st September 2017.

Thanks,

Andy and the NCS Bournemouth Team 3 (supported by Catch 22)
